How "Rock For Tots" Began

In 1992, Hurricane Andrew hit South Florida. After hearing the pleas for help and seeing the devastation pictures of the aftermath, I felt that I needed to help in some way. I started a supply drive through our local American Legion, The Charles J. Brady Post # 235. People came from all over the Albany area, and Capital District. Some came from Vermont and Massachusetts. We sent 20,000 tons of relief items.

In 1997, A couple approached me with a Grandchild with a rare eye cancer. They asked me to collect beverage can pop-tops to help support the Family while staying at The Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia Pa. I organized a benefit that raised over #5,000.00. By the time the child reached his first birthday his eye cancer was in remission.

In 1999, I was the Saratoga Co. Sons of the American Legion Commander. The charitable organization I chose to support as my project for that year was the U.S.M.C. Res. "Toys For Tots" campaign. It was a success, I decided to keep it as Our Program to support our regions less fortunate children.

Saratoga County American Legion 2003 Legionnaire of the Year, in recognition of your years of service to The Legion, To the Sons of The Legion, and your dedication to the Marine Corps' "Toys For Tots" program.

The Marine Toys For Tots Albany New York

WHAT IS ROCK FOR TOTS ?

It is a benefit which supports the Toys for Tots Program. This year our Emcee, Marshall Dylon from WGNA 107.7 will kick it off with several performers from 2:00 pm to 12:00 am, and a four hour buffet from 4:00 to 8:00 pm (draft beer and soda while available). Admission will be $8.00 and a new unwrapped toy.

When is the CAPITAL DISTRICT CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS PARTY ?

Time: 12:00 Noon to 2:00 pm. Featuring lunch with Santa, Frosty and Freckles the Clown. Admission: Children 12 & under, only a new unwrapped toy.

WHO IS PERFORMING ?

Through out the event "Van The Song Man" will be entertaining the main bar. 3 - 4:30 PM The Outta Hand Band. Special appearance by Chantal Dominique, from Nashville. 5-6 PM Dan Hogan and Marshall Dillon. 6-7:30 PM Special Guest, Australia's" CAT SOUTHERN ", Toyota Star Maker "2006"and also Peoples Choice Award "2007" for most promising rising star. 7:30 - 8:30 PM Raffles & Presentations. 8:30 - 9:30 PM Ohms Law. 10 -Midnight Electric Lipstick. All you can eat buffet 4-8 pm. Draft beverages included. Admission is $8.00 and a new un-wrapped toy.
