After leaving boot
camp and going on leave, Harry was sent to Pearl Harbor where he was
deployed to Tinsing, China. From there he went to Peitaih Beach,
China, as a tank driver in the First Marine Division Engineer Corps.
After his tour of duty was up there, he came home to Camp Pendleton,
and stayed there until he was discharged at Bayonne, N. J. Years
later, he joined the Marine Corps League and held all the offices.
In 2004, he was honored at the Marine Corps Ball as the oldest marine
at the ball. Harry also joined other military service organizations -
such as the VFW Post 5800 in Waterford, NY, the 1st Marine Assoc.,
the Marine Corps Engineer Association in North Carolina, and the
Albany Marine Corps County Council. He was also in the Honor Guard
for the VFW in Waterford, hosting some of their parades. He
honored a deceased veteran once a month for 13 years, since the Honor
the Deceased Program started in Rensselaer County. Harry participated
at the National Cemetery for numerous ceremonies for deceased
veterans. He decorated many cemeteries in Rensselaer County with
flags for Memorial Day Ceremonies. He also worked with the
committees for the VA Hospital. He helped with the Toys for Tots
program at the Crossgates Mall and the Waterford area to hand out toys for
children Recently, Harry was the Marine Corps League Volunteer at the
2004 "Rock for Tots" program which was held at Costanzo's Restaurant in Waterford, New York. |
